Autism Funding Grants

What funding is available for autism in the United States?

In the United States, there are various federal and state funding sources available to support individuals with autism and their families. Some examples include Medicaid waivers, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funding for school services, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for financial assistance, and grants from organizations like Autism Speaks and the Autism Society of America. Additionally, some states offer specific autism funding programs and resources. It's recommended to research and reach out to local autism organizations or government agencies for more information on available funding grants and support services in your area.

Hi Veronica, Thank you so much for sharing all of this detailed information—it’s incredibly helpful! 🙏 I’m actually a therapist in Canada, but I asked this question on behalf of a friend whose child lives in California. I’ll definitely pass along your suggestions about waiver programs, grants, and the importance of early assessment. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and I’m sure it will help many others here as well.

Reach out to your States Health and Human Services department and ask for a listing of all services available for disabled or special needs ie: Autistic kids or adults. Get on the “waiver” programs ASAP because waiting lists are as long as 18 years. This is why they recommend getting your babies or young toddlers assessed for deficits as early as possible so once you have your evals and psychological testings done you can get on the waiting lists. Also look for grants or scholarships. Did you know Free Masons offer grants?? Wild I know, but I applied for our two year old non verbal autistic grandson we are guardians over. Also look into ABLE financial accounts vs traditional banking or HSAs etc. Having surrogate(s) guardians in case of your inability or untimely passing is also crucial so try to get those people on legal documentation and go through a special needs attorney for help on that! Hope this helps anyone out there. I’m learning as I go along as well. God bless
